General InformationTable Tennis Club "Hapoel SHOMERA Jerusalem" is one of the oldest and biggest table tennis clubs in Israel and is considered by many to be amongst the most promising clubs in the country.Its main table tennis activities in Jerusalem are concentrated in six large Jerusalem suburbs (Kiryat HaYovel, Ramat Sharet, Pisgat Zeev,Givaa Tzarfatit, Armon Hanatsiv and Gilo). Today, about 500 players at different levels of proficiency train in various frameworks in these six suburbs. 23 teams of our club have been competing in several divisions, all under the aegis of the Israeli Table Tennis Association:
About one hundred children and youth are training and playing in our clubs. Most of them train twice a week and the most talented (25 of them) train every day. In the past few years, the proficiency level of our juniors has significantly increased and some of them are already considered to be amongst the best players in Israel in their age groups. We therefore aim to develop and expand our children`s and junior`s groups in offering more training and practice sessions as well as increasing the existing facilities. Our club boasts two outstanding players amongst its members: David Altaraz – President of the club and holder of an MA degree in Business Administration. In 2006 he won a Gold Medal in the Israeli Championship (level "B") and was ranked among the top ten players in Israel. In addition, he also took part competitions for the disabled and held the championship title in Israel. He has won many titles in a wide range of competitions, both in Israel as well as internationally. Altaraz participated in the Paralympics in Athens and Bejing. In the Paralympics in Athens he reached the quarter finals. Gil Braha – holds the title of Israeli Champion for over 40 plussers.
